Chiral Other brings together artists whose practices explore juxtapositions, misalignments, and the porous boundaries between identity, space, and matter. Taking its title from the scientific concept of chirality – in which mirrored forms cannot be superimposed – the exhibition unfolds around difference as an intimate architecture.

In a world of disparity, unity cannot be achieved through assimilation. Instead, this exhibition seeks affinity within irresolvable contrasts. Self definition arises from differentiation — we often explore and learn by contrasting qualities, expressions and markers of transitory identities. We redefine them when the context changes as the object transgresses itself with any shift in its environment. We reflect a universe built on layered relations, distorting it through our own prisms. The object and its reflection are not one and the same – they are chiral, unified not by sameness, but by their difference.

From the body as a conduit between dream and material (Ania), to poetic ruins that simultaneously expose and conceal private space (Kate), each work reveals what cannot be reconciled. Transparent materials – bioplastics, ephemeral textures, digital projections (Yesuijin, Polina, Tkus) – suggest a motif of layered presence. Others distort the human figure (Daria), or examine anthropomorphic constraints on non-human life (Nadia, Vera). Symbol, myth, and collective semantic systems (Ulviye) are presented as networks where meanings emerge relationally.

A whole holds qualities unattainable to its parts. The compartments of any system may appear independent, yet together they form something greater – a constellation defined by its interrelations. To recognize this is to confront the construction of our own nature, and with it, the radical inseparability of all things.

Reality is unified, yet we can only reflect it in fragments – pieces of an infinite mirror, juxtaposing non-superimposable forms. Together, these fragments offer a choreography of estranged resemblances: a world where firebugs meet at the seam – not to merge, but to illuminate the space between.

Chiral Other is a group exhibition by second year students in BA Fine Art Experimental Media, at Prague City University. We would like to thank Petrohradská Kolektiv for generously hosting us.
