The School of Art and Design’s Workshop week will bring industry specialists into the classroom. Students will learn a wide range of skills outside of their curriculum that may lead to other areas of interest.
Monday 11.11.2024
Upcycling clothes / Textile Art Studio Visits
Lecturer: Jeremiah Palecek
Time: 9.00 – 12.00 and 13.00 – 17.00
Visit the studio of Jeremiah Palecek and transform some of your old clothes into unique pieces by stitching custom designs by hand. Bring some old clothes you want to customize.
3D Printing Workshop
Lecturer: Jakub Grosz
Time: 11.00 – 16.00 (MON + TUE – 2 days workshop)
Day 1 (5 hours) Introduction, Modelling and Initial Printing
Day one will be an introduction to 3D printing and its applications in fine arts and graphic design. The day will cover printer setup and the preparation of models for printing. Printing will then be left to run over night.
Day 2 (5 hours) Advanced Techniques, Post-processing and Final Assembly
The second day commences with a review of the overnight prints, looking at print quality and any unexpected issues, followed by post-processing, involving cleaning, sanding and painting. The workshop concludes with the assembly of a collaborative composition, emphasizing individual contributions and discussing practical applications of 3D printing in art and design.
Linocut printing
Lecturer: Kaciaryna Pikirenia
Time: 13.00 – 16.00
This workshop introduces you to the art of block printing, covering its history, key artists, and essential tools and materials. You’ll learn and practice linocut techniques like monoblock, multiblock, jigsaw, and reduction printing. Bring along any textured paper — and if you’d like, a tote bag or T-shirt to create your own wearable art!
What to Bring:
- Pencil
- Metal or wooden spoon
- Any textured paper or fabric item (e.g., tote bag, T-shirt)
- Sketch or reference image for your design
- Extra lino block (one A5 piece will be provided by the school)

Branding seminar

A brand is an experience, a lifestyle, a set of values, an image. Brands have become part of our culture. The generational identity of the search for oneself often takes place through blockbuster commercials. Let’s take a closer look at the brand’s story.
CAMP visit

Centrum architektury a městského plánování [CAMP] is a Multimedia gallery and an urban planning hub focusing on the future of cities, housed in one of Prague’s best brutalist buildings. CAMP’s exhibitions make use of their unique 25-metre projection screen, as well as VR and other interactive technologies. After a tour of the building and the current exhibit. Daniela Krizanova will discuss the process of the production of public exhibitions of interactive media.

Ai / Midjourney Workshop
Lecturer: Franco Huller
Time: 09.00 – 16.00
This workshop introduces AI-powered image generation with Midjourney, covering the basics of prompting and tools while exploring issues of truth, originality, censorship, and copyright in art. Ideal for creatives interested in the intersection of technology and storytelling.
A laptop will be required for this workshop and if you successfully sign up, you will need to purchase a Basic Plan for one month, so that you can work with Midjourney and then you can decide if it is a tool you want to keep working with.
Dual optics / typography as art and information
Lecturer: Barbora Toman Tylova

Lettrism and visual poetry combine image and writing into a single visual whole. This is also the basic principle of graphic design.
How did visual poetry influence graphic design? How influenced art graphic design? How does working with fonts differ in the hands of a professional graphic designer and in the hands of a painter who is also involved in graphic design? Different views of typeface as an artistic material and a pure informational element.

Principles of pop-up
Lecturer: Marie Doucet
Time: 9.00 – 13.00
Pop-ups are when elements come out of the page of a publication. They add movement and more dimensions to text and illustrations.
In this workshop you will discover simple pop-up principles that we will combine to make a variety of cards. There will be plenty of practical examples and inspiring prompts. Illustration skills are not a prerequisite for this workshop. If you wish you may bring some magazines for cut outs and photocopies… A taste for manual experimentation is welcome.
Materials:
- Paper 200-250gsm (6-8 A4). Colours are up to you
- Craft knife, scissors, metal ruler
- Cutting board or strong cardboard to protect table
- Bone folder or blunt knife (for folding), embossing or dot tool
- to help marking the folds
- Pencil, eraser, markers…
- White glue (Herkules), double sided tape
TouchDesigner
Lecturer: John Carmon
Time: 10.00 – 17.00
This will be a workshop hosted by Jonza, a local visual artist, who will walk you through the basics of TouchDesigner. The goal of the workshop will be for you to have a basic knowledge of how to create an Audio Reactive visualization of any sound.
