Markéta Magidová is a Czech visual artist and a director. In her intermedia and feminist-oriented practice she seeks fragments, traces and catalysts of imagination across diverse minds, cultures and times. Images come to human minds in different ways. Through historical and visual representations they capture social stereotypes, expectations and codes as a cultural footprint.
In her talk, Magidová will introduce topics and themes that are related to questions around children’s imagination, what restricts them and how their visual thinking is free from the usual artistic and aesthetic norms that we create as a society and as adult culture-producers.
During the talk she will also present examples of her works – digital paintings, sculptures and animated films that often work with children’s drawings.
Markéta explores additional themes around gender and social norms, and the relationship between mythology and the present. Her animated films, digital images, and sculptures create a space both for new worlds and to reflect back on our existing world. She has participated in AIR programs at CEAAC, MeetFactory, Berlin Sessions, Visegrad Literary Fund and INI gallery in Prague.
Her work has been selected to screen at film festivals: Annecy International Animation Film Festival (2021), Bolton International Film Festival (2021), Filmfest Dresden (2021), Anifilm (2021), Bucheon International Animation Festival (2020), St. Louis International Film Festival (2020), Rome Independent Film Festival (2020)
