Packaging Workshop
2 April @ 9:00 - 16:00
FreePackaging is everywhere. It protects the product and helps communicate the brand message. There’s often too much of it but there are instances where it’s really needed. For this workshop you will not work on the design of a commercial packaging. Instead we are going to look at packaging from a more conceptual and poetic perspective. You will design and realise a packaging for a memento.
Select a memory of yours and an object that is associated with it. This natural or manufactured object should be no larger than 10x10x10cm. You will design a packaging for this personal relic.
Example of objects:
- something that reminds you of a personal souvenir (holidays, significant person, event or place),
- a talisman, an object that is dear to you. It could be a natural element (stone, fossil, sand, piece of wood…), a small toy, a piece of cutlery (spoon?), an ornament (brooch, earring, small piece of textile…), stationery (a favourite pencil?)…
I will bring some objects but it’s really better if you can bring your own object and think about the story that is associated with it for you.
What you will learn: packaging construction techniques, working with paper, storytelling aspects.
No theoretical knowledge is necessary. No laptop.
What to bring:
- 1 personal object that is dear to you (see workshop description for details), maximum dimensions 10x10x10cm
- Paper 200-300gsm (4 to 6 A3). Colours are up to you. Old cereal boxes can be up-cycled for testing models but you will enjoy working with nicer paper for the final model. Thick corrugated cardboard is NOT suitable.
- Craft knife, scissors, metal ruler
- Cutting board or strong cardboard to protect table
- Bone folder or blunt knife (for folding), embossing or dot tool to help marking the folds
- Pencil, eraser, markers, a couple A4 or sketchbook for sketching…
- White glue (Herkules), double sided tape
Recommended paper shops: Papyrus Store (Václavská 12, 102 00 Praha, near Karlovo náměstí), Grand Papir, Antalis, Zlata Loď…
