In a time in which we are constantly thinking about conserving resources, recycling, and reusing material, what place does print have? What role do zines play? How do we choose what to print when we’re already dealing with an overabundance of material waste? On the other hand, the possibility of digital obsolescence may make us value print even more.
Zines offer a unique way of exploring these questions through a print-based medium. Zines are short publications that have a long history of being self-published and DIY, often made by hand and then photocopied for distribution.
To respond to these questions, we’re asking: If you could only print eight A5 pages, what would they be?
Some ideas to get you started include:
What do you feel so strongly about that you have to put it in print?
What methods of distribution does print offer that other media don’t?
What do you find so precious that you want to immortalize it in print?
Draft plans for something finished that you no longer have or no longer exists
Something on your computer you will delete after printing
Turning something that only exists digitally into print
