Architecture Walk: Historicism & Art Nouveau

We will meet outside of Hradcanska Metro in front of the Tesco Express.

The walk will start with a look at the ramparts – or what remains of them, that provided fortification against Prussian advances during the conflicts of the 18th century. Then we cross the railway to admire the painted facades of the art-nouveau artists’ residences along Slavíčkova, and the splendid frontages of the historicist apartments of Bubenecská.

We learn the history of the industrial revolution spearheaded by industrialists like Vojtěch Lanna, whose neoclassical summer villa we will also visit. From here we will take a look at the art-nouveau façade of the former Praha 6 town hall before retracing our steps to the metro. Those who prefer can enter the Stromovka from here to spend the afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of the park.
